Statement by World Cocoa Foundation on the Death of President John Atta Mills
(July 24, 2012) – World Cocoa Foundation President Bill Guyton issued the following statement this afternoon on the death of Ghana’s President John Atta Mills:
The World Cocoa Foundation and its more than 90 members were shocked and deeply saddened to learn a short time ago that our friend President John Atta Mills died earlier today in Accra. We hasten to extend our heartfelt condolences to the people of Ghana and to Presidents Mills’ bereaved family.
President Mills was a leader not only for Ghana, but for all of Africa and indeed the world. He helped personify Ghana’s development as a democratic and increasingly prosperous nation. His support for sustainability in the cocoa sector helped make possible a wide range of WCF programs in Ghana.
My thoughts are also with WCF staff based at our offices in Accra who will have been deeply affected by today’s sad and unexpected news.
