Cacao Oro de Nicaragua joins World Cocoa Foundation

September 14, 2017

WCF is pleased to welcome Managua, Nicaragua-based Cacao Oro de Nicaragua as our newest member. In joining WCF, company President John Warrington said, “In developing Cacao Oro’s cocoa plantations, we feel it is our duty not only to rehabilitate already degraded land through active reforestation efforts under a sustainable agro-forestry model, but also to act as a last line of defense on the agricultural frontier to protect Nicaragua’s remaining rainforest preserves.”

Cacao Oro’s operations are being developed under an inclusive, sustainable model that accounts for the needs of all impacted actors: the company, its employees, its neighbors, the environment, and its customers. All planting is under an agro-forestry model that includes an active reforestation program for degraded land using indigenous species such as Cedro Macho, Caobo, and Nanciton. All operations are being certified under internationally recognized, independent sustainability standards, including UTZ and Rainforest Alliance.
