WCF is pleased to welcome Kumasi, Ghana-based Kuapa Kokoo Cocoa Cooperative and Marketing Union Limited “Kuapa Kokoo”, as our newest member. In joining WCF, Madam Fatima Ali, Kuapa Kokoo National President, said, “As a leading cocoa farmer cooperative, our main objective has always been the promotion of environmentally sustainable cocoa and farmers’ empowerment to improve the livelihoods of farmers, their families and communities. This objective is in consonance with the vision and the strategic priorities of WCF which therefore creates a good platform for a partnership aimed at promoting sustainable cocoa production. We at Kuapa Kokoo believe that, the effective implementation of the strategic priorities of WCF can only be possible if we farmers are on board and deeply involved, that is why we are joining WCF.”

Since its establishment in 1993, Kuapa Kokoo has championed the ethical production of cocoa beans.  For more than two decades, the cooperative has worked with the Fairtrade movement, and in 2015 joined UTZ certification.  It is currently working towards the attainment of Rainforest Alliance certification by the end of 2017.  In addition, Kuapa Kokoo has invested heavily in women’s empowerment, including a participatory decision-making process that has enabled female members to take up positions of responsibility in the organization. At the moment about 40% of members are women. Learn more about Kuapa Kokoo at http://kuapakokoo.com.
