‘Building Resilience for a sustainable cocoa value chain’
Resilience is that ineffable quality that allows some people to be knocked down by life and come back stronger. It is one of the most important qualities of a leader. Resilience is not a trait that people either have or do not have. It involves behaviors, thoughts and actions that can be learned and developed in anyone.
In this day, we aim to explore how women contribute to build a resilient cocoa sector. Both in cocoa communities as well as in business. How do we as women leaders- farmers, home makers, employers and decision makers – take action to build resilient communities (communities’ able to recover from price shocks, low productivity, low investment, low technology etc.). We need to be a supply chain in which its actors (especially women and youth) have the capacity to be tough, adapt easily to changing trends such as embracing technology and innovations. What scalable lessons in innovation can we bring to the table that will not only build the capacity of women in the supply chain but enable women to leverage for investment in their businesses? We need resilient women to effect change to make resilient homes, communities and value chain.
During this day, we will explore pathways to building resilient cocoa communities that can cope with price shocks, we will discuss women’s role in developing resilience, and assess how technology and innovation can contribute to building resilience. Survival as entrepreneurs in the whole value chain, from professional farmers to businesses. Where past WINCC events have provided participants origin countries’ and NGO’s perspectives, Hershey will provide a brand company’s perspective on the Cocoa & Chocolate sector.
Let this day be the beginning of a conversation that will withstand the many challenges ahead. It is our collective resilience that get us to our goal of a resilient and inclusive cocoa value chain in which women can reach their full potential.
