Context and Needs

Cocoa is one of the most significant crops in West and Central Africa, occupying between 5 and 6 million hectares in the coastal humid zone. West and Central Africa accounts for nearly 70% of the world cocoa supply, 90% of which is grown on nearly 2 million small family farms, the majority with land holdings of 2 hectares or less.

The World Cocoa Foundation works to engage West and Central African cocoa farmers, their families and communities, and the institutions that impact their wellbeing to further the economic, social and environmental sustainability of cocoa production. Areas of focus in West Africa include:
