Scientific Research
In many respects, cocoa farming has changed little in the past 100 years. This is due in part to the need for better methods of transferring new technologies and information to farmers, as well as the need for further research on key areas such as genetics, insect pests, and diseases. WCF addresses both of these needs through research and farmer-oriented regional programming.
WCF supports cocoa research by:
- Providing financial support for cocoa research programs.
- Supporting and participating in cocoa research networks.
- Producing a monthly research update that compiles global research news.
- Hosting an electronic library of cocoa-related journal articles.
- Partnering with the US Department of Agriculture to support the Cocoa Borlaug Fellows Program for scientists in cocoa-producing countries.
