Asia

A relative newcomer to cocoa farming, Southeast Asia has emerged as a major source of cocoa for the worldwide market in the past 20 years.

In Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam, thousands of cocoa farmers produce thousands of tons of cocoa annually. The average Southeast Asian cocoa farm is approximately two acres in size, and supports a family of five to seven people.

World Cocoa Foundation Programs in Southeast Asia:

  • Help farmers earn more for their cocoa crop through improved productivity, reduced crop loss and innovative farming practices
  • Organize farmers to help them sell their product in bulk and negotiate a better price paid for cocoa
