“Science in the Field”

Farmer Tran Van Thanh became a member of SUCCESS Alliance, learning sound production and marketing techniques. He then began to train other farmers in sustainable cocoa growing. Tran believes Vietnam's cocoa crop will be successful. "The program has helped us to invest in this new tree without interfering in our existing harvest," says Tran. "We are now quite confident to invest in this new tree."

Cocoa farmers face many challenges, such as diseases that can wipe out as much as 100 percent of their crop each year. Yet they do so with little help, and without knowledge of the latest research and technological breakthroughs.

To help cocoa farmers, their families and the cocoa farming community, the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) takes “science into the field,” boosting farmer income through improved crop yields and diversification, reducing pesticide use, and creating more economic opportunity by improving the quality of the cocoa produced.
